Bio
Gil Holland was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, and was the firstborn son of parents who immigrated to the United States from Mexico. Growing up in a bilingual household, Spanish was the language of home and family, while English became the language he learned in school. This bicultural upbringing shaped his perspective and instilled in him a deep appreciation for tradition, resilience, and the blending of worlds.
From an early age, Gil was immersed in music. His childhood memories are filled with the sounds of ranchera songs and romantic boleros, as he vividly recalls watching his parents dancing together in the living room to the music of Trio Los Panchos spinning on the record player. Inspired by those moments, he developed a love of composition and, by age fifteen, had already begun teaching himself to write music. His compositions reflect both his heritage and his personal journey, blending passion, reflection, and creativity.
Although music remained a lifelong passion, Gil chose to pursue a career in medicine, drawn by a calling to serve others. He earned his MD in 2000 and has since built a distinguished career in healthcare. For Gil, medicine and music are not opposing paths but complementary ones. As he often describes it, “as a doctor, I can care for someone’s body, but through music, I can touch the soul.”
